SELF-HARM INITIATIVE

The first letter and tool we received was in 2013.

Since then, we have received over 500 submissions, and many of the individuals we've connected with have significantly reduced the frequency & intensity of self-harm episodes, or stopped completely.

Take a read below:

As people who have experience with self-harm, we know how difficult it can be to try to stop. For many folks, self-harm is a coping mechanism: a method of pushing back negative emotions and a means of survival. Still, it is a method that can result in even more pain and isolation.

If you’re even thinking about stopping-- even if you’ve tried to stop before, even if you’re afraid you might relapse, even if you think you might only be able to stop using one particular tool-- we are proud of you. And we want to support you.

Throwing out your self-harm tools can be scary and difficult to do, especially if you have to do it all alone, in private.

That’s why we’re offering to take them off your hands.

Mail us your tools-- your razors, your safety pins, your scissors. Write a letter; get it all out. Send it all away.

We recognize this act as a brave one, and we want to acknowledge it as such. We will read and respond to every letter we receive. That way, you can know that, no matter where you are in the world, a member of our team knows a little bit of your story, and is able to recognize the enormous effort you’ve put toward healing. You don’t have to do this alone.

& await a letter documenting just how proud of you we are.
